Info

Rack locations are a bit more complicated than normal ones, as each rack my contain over a dozen individual locations. It is best to start with an understanding about the way Rack locations are labeled in Windfall.

Info

We also have documentation that can help you Create New Warehouse Locations, and if you need something more specialized, you can also Create Custom Location Types.

Rack Labels

In Windfall racks are sorted by row, bay, and level. Each of these components has a label that combines to make up the individual location tags within each rack.

Info

In the image shown here, each shelf (LEVEL) is labeled with a letter. They are found on the rack (BAY) 01. Many bays containing their own levels may exist in row A.

Info

When labeling the components of a rack, we recommend alternating between letters and numbers to create a more visually simple location tag.

Creating a Rack Location

When creating the rack location, navigate to the ‘Locations’ tab on the right side. Once inside, click the ‘New’ button at the top. Make sure that RACK is the selected ‘Location Type’. This will open up the fields for ‘Row', ‘Bay’, and 'Level’.

Info

NOTE: This would only create a single location which applies only to a single shelf.

Create Multiple Rack Locations

Creating a single location at a time is not particularly efficient when dealing with rack locations. Creating multiple locations at once becomes a necessity. From the ‘Locations’ tab, click the ‘New’ button at the top of the page.

You need to make sure ‘Create Multiple Locations’ is checked. Then you will fill out two sets of data. The ‘From’ column on the left will essentially be your first rack location, and the ‘To’ column is basically your last. The image below shows the range of locations created.

Info

We can see here that each level ends up with its own unique location. The bay on the left is 01, and the bay on the right is 02. But they exist in the same row (A), and have the same number of levels (A-D).

This method can do multiple rows, but Windfall will always create the rows with the same number of bays, and bays with the same number of levels. So if there are oddball racks that do not follow the pattern, they may need to be created separately.

Slot Configuration

Any time a rack location is created it requires a slot configuration. This feature gives users options for how they would like to divide each level.

Info

LEFT-CENTER-RIGHT: This divides the level into three separate locations.

Info

LEFT-RIGHT: This divides the level in half and into two individual locations.

Info

FULL: This labels the entire level as its own location.

Tip

As always, remember to hit the ‘Save’ button when done creating locations, or saving any changes.
